Lazy Praying

Without opening up too much in my first week of posting, something that I continue to struggle with is lazy praying.  I’ve always been told that when you are praying, you should imagine yourself actually speaking with God.

But how often does your mind wander when you are praying?  Or you just go through the rhythms and don’t really put much effort into it?  This happens to me all the time.

Could you imagine talking with your spouse, family, or friends, and being in the middle of a conversation, and then you randomly start talking about something completely unrelated?  Or if you just constantly talk about the same thing every time you talk to them?

One thing that helps me sometimes is to actually picture God in the room with me.  But even then, I find myself trying to identify all the characteristics of what He looks like and I usually end up forgetting what I was praying about.

What are some of your techniques that help you keep focused when praying?
