What We Want You To Know About Technology

Growing up in the technology age has been fascinating and terrifying. Technology allows us to communicate instantly with anyone in the world but it is also the cause of lots of pain. In a world where almost nobody has any privacy, it is daunting to know that with a few clicks of a button, anybody can find out just about anything there is to know about you.

There is a ton of danger with using technology. It led to your dad’s addiction to images online. It led to numerous fights between us because of our differing views of how to best use technology in our house. Growing up, the internet and technology was rather harmless, people weren’t even considering tracking information about you to use that to target you. It was simple and people failed to see what it would become, including us. We posted pictures of our family all over the internet, backed up all of our photos because it was free to a company that scanned each photo to find out more info about us, we let people know where we were going, where we’d been, what we liked and disliked about where we went, took pictures of what we ate and shared with the world. It was mind blowing the things we put on the internet for all to see.

Throughout the course of our lives, we have begun to see a shift from using technology harmlessly to the harm that technology can do. Applications are built to be addicting, websites can be used to create extremism in our society, it is used to shun and humiliate people in bulk, and there are typically no repercussions for what happens online.

Technology is not all bad though, it is used to reach people in remote parts of the world, it allows you to stay organized, it can carry countless books in palm of your hand.

At this point though, you likely know most or all of what I’ve written. So what do we really want you to know about technology? God gave us technology to use for His glory. How can we use technology for his glory?

Well, you can donate online. You can research remote areas in the world and find ways to help them. You can let others know you are praying for them. You can research specific topics about the Bible easily. You can support Christian movies and tv shows.

There is obviously a lot of bad stuff online, be smart with your information. There is only one you, use your information wisely (your photos, your demographics, etc).
