Christian Laws

The topic for today is “Christian Laws”.  We had some friends that were planning on staying with us, an unmarried couple that would classify themselves as atheist.  So I posed the question to my men’s group, should we request that they stay in separate rooms?  If they refuse, do we request that they rent a place to stay?

There were varying answers, one person chimed in almost immediately and said that he would not allow them to stay in the same room, that it was my house and my rules so they should follow my rules being my guests while under my house.  He also said it would be impolite of them, knowing our stance to even consider it.

Another member of the group chimed in shortly after stating that since they are not Christian, they do not follow the same rules, thus they should be allowed to stay in the same room.

1 Corinthians 5:9-13 American Standard Version (ASV)

I wrote unto you in my epistle to have no company with fornicators; 10 not at all meaning with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous and extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world: 11 but as it is, I wrote unto you not to keep company, if any man that is named a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such a one no, not to eat. 12 For what have I to do with judging them that are without? Do not ye judge them that are within? 13 But them that are without God judgeth. Put away the wicked man from among yourselves.

In verse 12, Paul clearly writes that as a believer we are not to judge those that are without.  As much as I want to tell them they can’t sleep together, it goes against what the Bible teaches.  My duty as a Christian is to love them and keep on sharing Jesus with them.  If they become believers, God will work in their hearts to reveal their sins.
