My wife and I recently announced that we are moving back to our hometown of Omaha, NE. I think we both assumed that one day we would move back but we just weren’t sure when that would be. So close to the start of this year, we both started praying about it. Those usually simple prayers, turned into more of a focus for us over the next few months. Is it logical for us to move back now? Does it make financial sense? What we do about our jobs? How would we get back? Where would we live? And a million more questions began popping into our heads. As we started going down the checklist, most of those things would be easily resolved or didn’t need to be resolved right away.
Kacie started applying for jobs assuming the market was what it used to be just a couple of years ago. So we didn’t expect to hear anything for quite awhile. I think deep down we were both hoping that it would have been a little longer before we heard anything because of the financial side of things. I bought my house under the new home buyer program and received $8,000 from the government. If this house is not considered our primary residence for 3 years, then we have to pay the government back ALL of that money. So financially speaking, we were hoping that by luck she wouldn’t have to start a new job until April of next year. Sure enough, just a few weeks after applying she was offered a job that will increase her current salary and easily cover the $8,000 we owe to the government come next tax season.
So the financial side of things was taken care of with an obvious answer from God. But is it logical for us to move back now? We don’t have any kids so it will make moving that much easier, so yes. What will we do about my job? I have been working from home almost consistently for about 6 months now with the occasional office visit but I wasn’t actually considered a “virtual” employee. To become virtual, you have to fill out an application, have your manager approve, have their manager approve, and then HR has to approve. Luckily for me, I was on great terms with everybody involved and my application got approved in 2 business days.
Those were our major concerns and all were answered in such a short time span (thank God). Next steps are for us to sell our house, sell a car, move all of our stuff, and find a new house. All of this because Kacie and I prayed simple prayers for God to show us his will for us.
Although things are a bit crazy in our lives right now, I am looking forward to moving back to Nebraska. I love The Woodlands and I will miss it tremendously but I am looking forward to spending time with old friends and family and finding a new church! One that sparked our interest was Calvary Chapel of West Omaha (http://www.calvarywo.com/). If you have any churches in mind that are good for young adults, feel free to shoot me a message. God Bless.
