Helping Hands

It’s hard for me to take a message I hear on a Sunday and convert that to something I can incorporate into my daily/weekly/monthly habits. So I have created a series called “Helping Hands”. Every so often, I want to encourage you to help someone else. There are a million different things you can do to show that you care about others. After personally being so discouraged by everything that is happening in our country and around the world, my hope is that my small actions can make a difference in someone’s life.

Throughout the week, there will be plenty of opportunities to do something nice for others and my goal is to take advantage of those situations. After all, who doesn’t like when somebody does something nice for them?

In a church service awhile back, we were given a half sheet of paper asking for people to donate a “care package” for the homeless. It was a list of about 10 items, most costing under $1 each. The items included soap, shampoo, razors, shaving cream, socks, toothpaste, toothbrush and other hygiene items. It was something very simple for most of us that you could pick up the next time you’re at the grocery store and hand out the next time you’re driving around. Bonus points if you take the time to ask them a few questions.

My wife is very good about trying to have things on hand while driving to hand out to the homeless. This is just one example of the many things you can do throughout the week.

Proverbs 19:17 ESV
Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed.
